BORN IN ETHIOPIA, RAISED IN MELBOURNE
We didn’t set out to change the world through coffee. We just wanted to share a little warmth – the kind you feel with each sip of a really good brew.
We start small
Ageyo Coffee started with a simple idea: what if we could create a coffee experience that feels like a hug in a mug? (Not the slogan yet, but we’re getting there.)
Our founders Daniel and Soliana were coffee lovers with a dream – and, frankly, a lot of caffeinated courage.
We bring tradition to the table
The Ageyo Coffee story begins in a tiny village in Ethiopia called Ageyo.
That’s where Dan grew up – raised by a family with 45 years of coffee farming know-how. You could say coffee is in his blood. From planting seeds with his dad to moving to Melbourne as a kid, Dan carried that passion with him.
In 2016, Dan and his wife Soliana, along with their six-month-old son, returned to Ageyo. Why? To reconnect with their roots and learn from the land – and from the farmers who had sustained generations before them.
Three years of digging in (sometimes literally) led to partnerships with farmers who shared the couple’s love for coffee and community. When Dan and Soliana returned to Melbourne, those relationships became the foundation of Ageyo Coffee.
We like open doors
We opened our Collingwood café to share our culture and serve beautiful coffee. Roasting wasn’t the original plan, but when the first shipment arrived in early 2020 – right as the pandemic forced the world to pause – we pivoted.
We roasted our own beans and, well, Melbourne loved them. The support kept coming, and what started as a small batch became a big-hearted mission: honouring our roots while bringing Ethiopia’s best coffee – direct and ethically sourced – to Melbourne’s mugs.
We set the sustainability standard
All our coffee is responsibly farmed by people we know in Ethiopia, because if it wasn’t… well, we simply couldn’t sleep at night. It comes down to our integrity. We believe in holding ourselves to the highest sustainability standards, not the easiest ones.
We’re proud of every bean we source, every farmer we partner with, and every cup we pour.
Our mission? To keep crafting coffee that feels like home: cozy, warm and with the right amount of buzz. And we’ve got some exciting plans brewing for the future. Stay tuned.
